This website was made for my friends who want to know about Japan

I hear that it’s a good season to see Perseids starting from yesterday.

Perseids is popular as a meteor shower which can be seen well in summer.

There is a lyric of a song by Japanese band, “SEKAI NO OWARI”: “Perseids, now, do you see it as me?”
It’s romantic that people in other places can see the same stars.

Today, it’s raining in Tokyo, so it may be difficult to see stars, but I hope that you can see the meteor shower.

A「お疲れ。

I guess that Most foreigners who study Japanese language learn “Konnichiwa(=Hello)”.
but actually, Japanese people rarely say “Konnichiwa”.
In my opinion, when Japanese people meet someone who they know, they say “Ohayo:(gozaimasu)” or “Otsukare(samadesu)”.
“Ohayo:gozaimasu” means “Good morning”, and “Otsukaresamadesu” originally means “you’ve got to be tired”. But nowadays many people use them as greetings for all time.
Furthermore, Japanese people talk about the weather more often than about conditions, like “How are you?”.
For example, when two college students meet in the afternoon, they talk like this:
A“Good mornin’”
B”Ah, you’ve got to be tired”
A”You too. Well, it’s super hot today, right?”

Today is the Japanese national holiday, “Yama no hi (Mountain day)”.
It’s the newest national holiday, and August 11th 2016 was the first day of Mountain day.
This day was enacted according to traditional long vacation, “Obon yasumi”. Many people stay at their parents’ home or have a trip in this season.

ちゅうごくごでは bai sui(ひゃくさい という いみ)というのだそうです)

I hear that people in western countries say “bless you” when someone sneezes.
It is also said that Chinese  people say “bai sui” in this situation (it means “one hundred years”)

In Japanese, there is not a word similar to them.
If someone sneezes around you, it’s good to say “Daijo:bu?(Are you okay?)” or “Kaze hi:tano?(Do you have a cold?) ”

Also, there is a superstition that “When you sneeze, someone is gossiping about you”.
You are a senior of Japanese if you say “someone is gossiping about youXD” to people who sneezes.

The summer vacation has come!
I have to practice to write English essays
for my exam, so I’m going to write an article everyday during this summer vacation as well as possible

Today I’ll write about the conveyor belt sushi.

The other day I went to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, and saw a robot working.
According to my international student friend, sushi at conveyor belt sushi restaurants is made by machines and foreign people.
Moreover, this type of sushi restaurant is popular also for foreign tourists.

In those days, sushi was something of Japanese, by Japanese, for Japanese. But nowadays it seems that the style of sushi is completely changed.

The differences between first personal pronouns/

I’ve written a new article after a long time. Actually, I had got “Gogatsu-byo ” and I was kind of feeling blue.

Many Japanese are tired of their daily routines because they decide to have some major changes in their lives which normally starts in April with the changes of seasons. Many of these people get a kind of depressed, and they are unable to go to their school/office.
We call it “Gogatsu-byo” (May sickness).

Sadly in this season the number of fatal incident is increased.

By the way, I’ve finished to make a chart of Japanese first personal pronouns.

I used characters from Doraemon, Spirited Away, Natuto, and ONE PIECE.

f:id:JapaneseCultureAndLanguage:20180606123653j:plain

NARUTOONE PIECE
My friend who’s good at drawing helped me with Naruto and ONE PIECE characters.

However, the characters are drawn with in the first personal pronouns which the characters use to refer themselves.

For example, “Haku” from “Spirited away” calls himself “watashi” in the almost all the movie, but finally he remembers who is he and he uses “Boku”
